Debbie, a native Texan, grew up in Springtown, a small town west of Dallas/Fort Worth. Her grandparents had a large farm where all the family gathered together, harvested vegetables and prepared mouth-watering home-style dishes - as pleasing to the eye as the tummy. Deb appreciated both and became an artist in the studio as well as in the kitchen.
Debbie began to draw at an early age, often using nature as her inspiration. Debbie attended University of North Texas (then North Texas University) obtaining a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
She loves painting with the vivid colors of her childhood. "My mom can grow anything," Debbie says. "Her flowers are always gorgeous. The textures, colors and scents are intoxicating to my soul."
She also feeds her passionate spirit with a variety of music and as much travel as she can work in. Her adventures have taken her to Italy, Fiji, Hawaii, St. Thomas, Bonaire, San Salvador, Belize, Cayman Islands, Banff Canada, New York, Boston, California, Washington State, Santa Fe, Nevada and Vermont.
A friend told her about a group meeting to paint, drink wine and just enjoy time away from the hectic schedules of everyday life. "I had become so tied up with working in the advertising industry that I no longer found creative joy in the everyday," Deb explains. "Taking the time to paint has revived my artist's soul and has made my life richer."
Some of Deb's painting buddies are encouraging her to do stand-up comedy. Watch for her one-woman show on HBO. You won't find it there, but you should. Maybe that's the next corner she'll turn.
